New Year's Eve

As I am sure you can already tell from my posts for New Years I am spending time with my family at the beach! We have come to Hilton Head Island for the past three New Year so it is starting to become a tradition.

I found my New Year's Eve shirt at the Loft and my jeans are from Lucky Brand. The sparkly shirt is perfect and not too dressy. It's a little cold so of course I'll pair it with a sweater, but I am enjoying my time at the beach.

I hope your New Year's is great! Be Safe and happy 2015!

Off to HHI

I am thrilled to be on the road to Hilton Head for New Years! I have the cutest backseat companion named Packer!

(Only water from Starbucks for the sweet pup.)

On this trip I plan to get a lot of stuff done to stay ahead on posts for next semester, read a new book I got for Christmas called Living So That by Wendy Blight, and doing some outlet shopping! Along with being as lazy as possible, I am excited to get to the beach.

Unfortunately, I won't be getting any tan lines this time, but I will definitely be laying out by the pool to read and stuff. I will have lots of Instagram pictures up if you want to follow me at: honeybee_kelsey.

Comment below how you plan to spend New Years!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas y'all! I had a post planned about Christmas outfits and all sorts of stuff, but I decided I would take Christmas Eve/Christmas day to spend time catching up with my family. I had a blast going bowling on Christmas Eve during the day with my cousins and grandparents then going to church, and opening presents. Christmas day consisted of presents from Santa and my parents, lots of food, and being terribly lazy. I loved every minute of it.

Everything I got for Christmas was much needed for the upcoming semester including leggings, tennis shoes, and Philosophy shower gel. What else could I college girl want? Leave in the comments below some of the favorites gifts you gave or received for Christmas. I am always on the look out for gift ideas for friends so I enjoy hearing what other people give/get.

So once again Merry Christmas. I hope Santa was good to you and your day was as fabulous as you are!

Talking about Tights

In Tennessee it is not alway so cold in the winter that it is mandatory to wear tights, but when your legs are as pale as mine it is necessary to buy some. For me, I wear tights with skirts and dresses for the fall and winter. I assume I am going to get two to three wears out of them (because I always find a way to snag them) so I opt out of buying expensive tights and stick to whatever I can find at Target.

This winter I only bought a brown pair and a black pair. This is because I knew I would really only be wearing tights to a select few things. I might go back and get a fun colored pair to start off next semester in a fun way. I know, new tights, how riveting! Is it just me?

The pictures above are an example of how I style my tights with one of the skirts I primarily wear in the fall and winter.  I do have a couple dresses I wear tights with, but they are dressier and I somehow managed to leave them back at school. Oops... This a typical outfit I would wear to sorority chapter meeting, church, or to a class presentation.

Please leave in the comments below places you have found with inexpensive tights that hold up for a couple uses!

True Grit Fleece

This is the True Grit Mens 1/2 Zip Pullover in the color malt. I found out about True Grit from my sweet biology lab partner when I was practically drooling over how soft her jacket was. It is like wearing a fleece blanket everywhere you go. I just knew I had to get my hands on one immediately.

I got this jacket at the beginning of November and it has been a go to jacket as I'm running out the door. Unfortunately, I steer clear of wearing this jacket when it is raining because I'm not really sure what it would do to the jacket. I don't want anything bad to happen to it haha!

One thing I really love about this jacket is how the collar is a different color fleece. It is a small detail, but I absolutely adore it. I can pair this fleece with almost anything: leggings and tennis shoes or jeans and boots. Either way I am very comfortable in this jacket and think it is a great product coming from the True Grit company. Even though it is from their men's line they are perfectly fit for a women's oversized comfy fleece.

I ordered mine off of the True Grit website, but I have also seen them on the Nordstrom website. They have a variety of colors including not only a multitude of neutrals, but also bright blues and oranges! So if you haven't already go check out True Grit. Also you should follow them on Instagram at truegrit_brand!

If you own a True Grit fleece or any other incredibly soft fleeces comment below and let me know what you think!

Barbour Beadnell

I have had my Barbour Beadnell jacket for almost a year now. It has been hands down one of the best jackets I have ever purchased. Now I know they are an investment and I paid for every single penny of it with birthday, Christmas, and babysitting money, but it was so worth it. I chose the color sage because the color looks great with jeans or leggings and riding boots. The moment I saw it in person I knew that the color was perfect for me.

From tailgates to parties to going out for a lunch date I have grabbed my Beadnell for everything. At first I was scared to wear it too much especially when it rained, but the jacket has held up so well over the year. The waxed layer on the outside really helps the jacket to stay in great condition through rain and everyday wear. Which is exactly what I was looking for out of a jacket because I'm in college. Stuff happens. I couldn't be happier with how my jacket looks, fits, and the many ways I can style it.

This Christmas I asked for the Betty Fleece Gilet in Olive which zips into the Beadnell to add another layer for warmth. I am exciting to style the vest too because it can be worn without the jacket too. I may do another post about the liner individually sort of as a product review or showing how I style it.

Duck Boots

To begin with, I am glad I got my duck boots last year because this year they are sold out everywhere. My sister asked for a pair for Christmas and the L.L. Bean website says they are backordered until March. Yeesh! I can see why though, I wear mine at least twice a week walking all over campus. They keep your feet so warm, are so cute, and are so much lighter than Hunter rain boots.

I wear lots of brown and natural tones so I chose the tan and brown 8" boots. The brown is also safe because then you can pair almost any socks with them. I ordered mine a size down because they run very large. I find the majority of the socks I wear with my boots at J. Crew, outdoor stores, and Target.

The socks I am wearing in the pictures above are from a local outdoor store and they are the brand SmartWool. I find these socks are the most comfy because they are thick, but don't make your foot feel restricted. Also having my toes stuck together in a shoe is probably one of the single top ways for me to feel the most uncomfortable.

Do you have a favorite winter shoes or favorite pair of socks to wear duck boots with? Leave your answers in the comments below!

My Addiction

My addiction... to Netflix, that is. As the semester drew to a close and I had more stress piling on than I knew what to do with I turned to Netflix. I threw myself into the shows New Girl and now Scandal.

I actually managed to watch twenty episodes of New Girl in one day. No shame. I tried to justify it by saying the episodes are only around twenty to twenty four minutes long. However, that is not the real reason I was so sucked in. It was actually the ongoing will Jess and Nick end up together or not part that tore at my attention constantly. My friends can vouch when I say I was in some sort of trance where I physically could not set down my laptop to do anything that qualified as productive. If you are looking for a new show on Netflix to watch that is a comedy I strongly recommend you look into New Girl!

Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to start on the show Scandal. It makes me want to get on a plane and head to D.C. stat! Olivia Pope single-handedly makes me want to become a political "fixer." Each episode she has a new client with problems that get solved in a not so legal way, but it always works out. Plus, she has strong ties with a certain someone in the White House. I recommend this show to anyone who is looking for a crime solving show with a political twist.

I will be at my computer for the next however many hours attempting to finish Scandal. If you have any ideas of what I should watch next leave them in the comments below.

Kelsey

Critical Life Update

I cannot believe I have not posted since August! That is absolutely terrible. Currently I am sitting watching a rerun of the Victoria's Secret fashion show, soaking in my new freedom of winter break. In vein of how I abandoned my blog, I need to catch you up on a whole semester worth of news!

Let the fun begin:

At the end of August I pledged the Chi Omega sorority at the University of Tennessee.

Here is a picture from one of my first days of classes.

Next is a group shot with some of my lovely sisters from our first mixer which was a "back to school biker bash."

And a little bit of football season.

One of the last events I had for the semester was formal. I had a very great time with Zachary and my friends.

Over the semester I have met so many new people and maintained friendships with some sweet girls from high school. I cannot wait to go back next semester and I am very excited about my classes!

I promise I will be better about posting from now on. Definitely a New Years Resolution!

If you would like to see a post about what I plan to do as my New Year Resolutions for 2015 comment below!

Game Day Apparel

Now that college football season is right around the corner I have something very important to talk about. As I'm sure everyone knows, in the fall, Saturdays in the south are a HUGE deal because that mean you can designate the whole day to football without an ounce of guilt. For the boys it means going to the game or not leaving the couch to watch it on TV. For the girls it's much bigger than just a game. Saturdays are the time to show your team spirit in the cutest outfits possible. Each year I look forward to buying new game day apparel and dream about all of the outfit possibilities. In order to get the wheels turning in your head I will be posting some of my favorite game day outfits I have gotten for this season!

In with the New

Recently I have been trying out a handful of new products in the hope of finding the perfect combination of makeup for school. From brow pencils to nail polish I have been scouring Walgreens, Target, Ulta, and Sephora for products that are easy to use, long lasting, and reliable. Here are a few I have found work to meet my specifications. I will put links to the products below the review of my experience!

First, the widely talked about Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pencil. I purchased this product in the color caramel. The packaging is long and skinnier than an actual pencil. However, with the length it is easy to tell there is a lot of the product squeezed in there. One side of the pencil is a slender twistable brow pencil that with it small size seems reassuring on the accuracy of filling in your brows. The other side has a spoolie which is extremely convenient to have to brush up your eyebrows as you are applying the product. I have found after using the product almost everyday to live up to the hype. The color is highly pigmented, a good match for me, the pencil is smear-proof (just as the description says), and overall a high quality brow pencil. The Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil is around $21 which may seem to be a bit pricey for an eyebrow pencil, but I have yet to find another product that compares!

The next product I discovered was the Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain. I purchased this product in the color lovesick which is a bright pink with blue undertones. The balm stain compares almost to a lip crayon, but the formula makes the stain seem smoother during application. I have gone to this product on days when I am looking to brighten up my face with a lip color without a full on lipstick. The only downside I have found is that I have had to reapply the lip color throughout the day, but not as often as I would have to if I have chosen a gloss. This balm stain makes me feel confident when I am wearing it which is another factor I find important in beauty products. The Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain is about $10. The packaging is adorable and I have used this product a handful of times and it does not appear to run out quickly so this should last me a while.

A hair product I have discovered which will be perfect for college, that I have already talked about on here is the Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo. In college, I hate to say, I probably won't get the opportunity to get up and shower before every  early morning class I have and I won't always want to throw on a baseball cap. I have tried about 4 different dry shampoos from different stores and I have yet to find one that makes me feel like all of the oil in my hair has been absorbed. I had not tried the original Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo and orginially intended on getting the one for brunettes, but the kind ladies in Sephora said it would probably be too dark of a tint for my hair color. I have tried the Batiste Dry Shampoo for Brunettes* so I knew what to expect with the tinted spray, but when I tested out the Drybar version for brunettes I knew I should just stick to the original Detox formula because, in fact, it was much too dark. I am happy with my purchase and the formula is great! There is no sticky or wet feeling after you spray your hair and that's what I was looking for. The Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo is around $20. If you are looking for a high-end dry shampoo this would be a good go to. Also if you are dragging your feet about spending that much you can get the $25 Drybar VIP Pack which has not only the Detox Dry Shampoo, but the Money Maker hairspray and the Southern Belle volumizing mousse.

*Please note that the Batiste Dry Shampoo for Brunettes is my second favorite dry shampoo out of the handful I have tried! It is around $12.

Let's get down to talking about body smell. Yes, I'm talking about perfume. I was not been too adventurous in the perfume department throughout my years in high school. I mainly used Victoria's Secret body mists which come in a huge variety so they are great to try out too, but I never had a signature scent or spent money on actual perfume. I started looking for a scent to call my own for college, you know because I am obviously so grown up now (Haha). Basically I looked for something clean smeeling. That is when I found the Marc Jacobs Honey perfume! I bought the rollerball version because I was trying out a couple different fragrances, but the Marc Jacobs won by a long shot! This floral scent will leave you fresh and the best part is you can take it with you to smell clean all day!

Comment below some new products you have been trying out lately!

Kelsey
